Saturdays 4 hour class for beginners

100 US dollars
The Hencken House|2906 Ossenfort Road|Ossenfort Road|2908 Ossenfort Road

Service Description

Discover the fundamentals of blacksmithing by creating a set of three functional pieces: a decorative hook, bottle opener, and letter opener. You'll learn how to safely operate a propane forge, achieve proper metal temperatures, and develop your hammer control through repeated practice. Expect hands-on work from start to finish as you shape raw steel into beautiful, functional items. By the end of the day, you'll walk away with three pieces you've made yourself and a solid foundation in blacksmithing basics. Appropriate attire must be worn to work in the shop. No jewelry or baggy clothes should be worn. It is recommended to wear cotton clothing (as close to 100% cotton as you can- jeans and a cotton top/jacket are a great choice) and avoid highly synthetic blends that can melt. Long hair must be tied back. No open toed shoes, high heels or shorts may be worn for blacksmithing classes. *Hearing protection is required while tools are in operation or metal is being hammered. If you do not bring your own we will have earplugs available for $1. *Eye protection is required. If you do not have safety glasses we will have pairs available for$5. Hydration is important, especially during summer months. Bringing your own bottle water is encouraged.
